What kind of program is planned?2018-01-17T21:25:14-07:00

 During your HOBY Leadership Seminar, many dynamic leaders—all volunteers from the fields of business, education, government, and other professions—will address aspects of our changing world and the challenges future leaders will confront. The program will not promote any specific political party, religion, or way of thinking; but is designed to develop critical thinking skills by actively involving participants in discussions and informal debate. During the seminar, you will be asked to undertake a community service project(s) involving at least 100 hours during the year following your seminar, to make a difference in your school, community, place of worship, or other environment where you see a need. The program also includes outstanding speakers, leadership activities, social events, and a special closing ceremony to which your parents are invited.  

When will the seminar be held?2021-02-10T19:35:07-07:00

The 2021 seminar will be held virtually on June 11-12. Programming will begin at 9:00 am on both days of the seminar and will conclude at 5pm. There is an optional social activity later in the evening on Friday, June 11th. A detailed schedule is included in the materials that are mailed to all participants before the seminar.

The 2021 seminar will be held virtually on Zoom and HOBY’s guided learning platform, HOBY Connect.

Who pays for the seminar?2021-02-10T19:28:06-07:00

Your school or parent has paid a Registration Fee which covers the costs pf materials and resources used during the seminar. All staff members donate their time and are not compensated.

What should I wear to the seminar?2021-02-10T19:31:12-07:00

You will be mailed a HOBY t-shirt prior to the seminar. Please plan to wear it during the program.

What if I am unable to attend the seminar?2021-02-10T19:34:27-07:00

If circumstances arise that prevent you from attending the entire seminar we would like to give another student the opportunity to attend. Please return these forms to the person at your school who selected you, and follow up with a call to Ben Blaker at the number listed in your pre-seminar forms.
